Bleah, so I've been trying to get a job in the graphics arts and... well... I've met with little success.

I have a degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Sciences with a minor in Multimedia and Creative technologies with an overall GPA of 3.4 from the Time Magazine "College of the Year 2000" USC as well as about 9 years of practical art experience including many published works...

But apparently, that means squat because it's not an "art degree".

I am a little upset... certain people within that company looove my layout and art abilities but it boils down to the person in charge of the hiring and they won't even consider me for an interview without a degree. And yet, they're all overworked and could use the help. Somehow, I fail to see the logic.

I guess I'll refocus on finishing up my games and playing with the new kitty.

Why do I feel like crying?

Bah... putzes.

If people in the company already like your work, see if any of them can apply some pressure to the hiring manager. Your probably going to need to bring up more reasons for considering you if your body of work and experience isn't enough.

If it's a "company policy" thing (which seems rather narrow minded) then you might need to see who can be talked to in order to get around it.

They have the benefit of already knowing you vs a complete unknown who might not fit well in the company. That should be at least one point in your favor.

Well, I'm not completely out of the game yet... Nats and Jon are gonna talk to the #2 in charge of the company since they know her... and she likes me ^_^ So maybe there can be a few strings pulled yet.

I guess I was more disappointed not in being able to have a job but more in the fact I might not be able to work with Nats, Jon, and A-sama. It's not the job I like, it's who I get to work with. ^_^
