Ushicon report, 2002
First annual Ushicon! And I have to say, it was a blast. It always seems that smaller cons are so much more fun than the bigger ones. They're a lot more friendly and personable.. and have so much more energy. =^.^=
So I came home Sunday and found out Dom pimped my comic on MT.. and now I'm frightened. Nekobox has been running out of my livingroom (quite literally!) for the past year and we've had about 300 hits a day since the comic went up, so I've always thought my machine would be adequate. If the hits jumps significantly, I may be forced to actually find real hosting =O.o=
Anyway, about the con. It was freaking cool! Yes, I know, it's a small first time con, but cons that are small are always so full of energy and life! It was really fun =}
Arriving on Thursday, I met up with some friends, Jase and BX.. and and and Natsuki! She's so cute and cool and fun and and yeah! Too bad she lives in Texas.. I'd marry her given a realistic chance. =^.-= She's too cool to explain in words, so I'll try to explain how cool she is in my native language.
Nyo!
=^.^= Actually, to tell you the truth, the reason why she's so cool is because she's practically my clone! Except, of course, female and much cuter =} She and I think the same thoughts and we're on the same wavelength. It's very.. comforting to have someone like that. =^.^=
*glomps Natsuki!*
Anyway, friday morning finally rolls around and I get into my costume. Natsuki and I peruse the halls just.. talking to people. It's so cool to be able to do that.. walk up to random people and just talk =^.^= That's what I love about cons.. I rarely go for the anime... though, I did watch some on Sunday, which I'll get into later.
Friday afternoon, I hosted my very first panel ever. Actually, Jase hosted it, but I was his "co-anchor" and I helped him run it. It was a costuming panel and it went surprisingly very very well. I never excepted more than maybe 10 people, but we had practically a full room. And more than that, people actually interacted and asked questions.. it was more than just sitting there lecturing the whole time =}
Friday dinnertime, I finally found my perfect steak. I've always been on a quest to find the "Matrix" steak.. the one you see Cipher eating in the movie when he's talking with the agent. Red, yet not bloody, juicy yet not watery, just succulent and tender! Last time I went to Texas for Akon I didn't get to go get steak =;.;= So I made it a personal QUEST to go find some this time around. I dragged a few friends along... boy was I glad! Ironically, I went to some place called the Old San Fransisco Steak House or something like that.. but still.. damn fine steaks. And pretty cute waitresses too =}
The restaurant was a theme restaurant, with girls in costumes much like Moulon Rouge costumes. Very leggy =^.-= There was also a girl who got on this little red swing hanging from the vaulted ceiling, and she would swing back and forth and kick this bell hanging from the ceiling. =} Actually, of everything, the cute girls weren't the coolest thing there... the waiter (yes, male) was FREAKING cool. He was really really nice, and he helped me find the steak I wanted. Actually, he's getting into anime and he was just really nice and helpful and a great conversationalist =} While I was ordering, a neighboring customer actually was kind enough to help me figure out what steak to get too! Wow, Texans are extraordinarily personable =}
I ended up getting a 12 oz. t-bone steak. Mmm.
So the rest of Friday night was spent goofing off and just hanging out. I stayed up with Natsuki until 4 am. We kept saying "OK, seriously.. time to go to sleep!" but would just keep talking and talking anyway. =} Slept in until 11am saturday morning. =^.^=
Saturday was a general relaxing day. Since I got up so freaking late, I missed a lot of stuff going on in the morning. Ended up just going to lunch with Natsuki at Bennigans next door. The coolest part of Saturday is that we went to Walmart.
Dood. Everything in Texas is a) REALLY BIG and b) REALLY CHEAP!
Amongst the things I got, each for a buck, pudding cups, 3 pints of water, 3 liters of Dr. Pepper, a pack of 6 chocolate cupcakes, and 12 creme filled cookies! Serious con food there =}
Later that evening, we went to the cosplay. I dunno, something about this cosplay felt.. better.. that every other cosplay I've went to. There was no judging nor were there prizes, and it felt so much more relaxed and fun! There was no heavy "competition" and it didn't drag on for 2+ hours while people tried to win stuff! I'm so proud of Jase too.. when I met him a few years ago, he was so.. closed and paranoid.. and now, I look at him and I've seen him change and grow, and he's just so so.. together, and cool, and charming! It's like being a parent. =} It's kinda cool to be able to be part of influencing him to becoming the great person he is now =}
Sunday finally came around, and sadly, I had to go home. I help host a vector art panel, which I have to say went rather well too. The only glitches were technical in nature.. especially since the computer was not either of ours, nor did we have a mouse to play with! Jase and I were very limited in our presenting abilities since the projector could only go 640x480 too. =>.<= At least we got our ideas across =}
Sunday was the only real day Nats and I sat down to just watch anime. At an anime con. Sounds weird huh? We were actually kinda just bored and saw Noir on, so we sat in on episodes 7-9.
Damn, that's a cool series.
Must bug A-sama to make me copies =}
So one of the more interesting things I saw on Sunday was at the airport in Phoenix, Arizona.. on the way tranferring flights. I saw this "high tech phone" running a Windows client which I guess was supposed to allow you to do cool high tech things while calling someone. However, I have no idea what it really does since the screen was plastered with tons of "Critical Error" messages.
Yay. Go Microsoft.
=^.^= I got a picture.. perhaps I'll post it sometime.. it's certainly amusing. =}
Anyway, the comics for the next week will probably be filler or Ushicon report related until I get up the steam fo continue the so-called story in my comic. I have inspiration again (Thanks Nats!) but I now need to find the energy and time. =^.^=
Oh! And all those people I need to contact from meeting you at Ushicon, I promise I will soon.. I'll be busy these next few days, I'm sure. =}
