October 24, 2003 - Friday

Well, the short of it is... both Nats and I got laid off. Mostly having to do with their ability to sell books and the marketing strategies they push, they of course blame their failure to turn a profit on Nats. In the past few days, however, we've turned our anger and loathing into righteous indignation directly into zealotry and ferver. In the short time I was there, I realized that, along with several Nekobox folk, we have the skills, the talent, and the drive to license and publish our own manga. I've begun working out a rough business plan and hope to propose it to investors in the next few weeks. What? Another Manga company? You're probably all thinking that. You're also probably wondering what we'd do that no other company can do. Well, first off, we're doing it because we love it. Not because we're trying to make a billion dollars. We're not gonna license 500 titles and sweatshop them all out. We're gonna get a small handful of faithfully strong titles and make them the best we can. There are a lot of companies that have so many titles, it takes them forever to put out subsequent volumes of the same manga even if they already have the rights to them. They spread themselves too thin. =} Secondly, we plan to keep it honestly as "authentic" as possible. I know one company already says 100% "authentic" but is it really? This of course is a dream we're gonna work hard to make come true... but it can't happen without investors. We plan to write up an airtight business plan and send it to some companies to see if they'd be interested. In the meantime, I plead the readers of Nekobox to donate to us. ^_^ We'll be pinching pennies as it is and we all really believe we can make something wonderful happen. Woo! Today is Take Back Your Time Day! The gist of it is that Americans are overworked; we work 9 more weeks than European citizens, and roughly 200 more hours a year than we did in 1973. We beat JAPAN in hours worked. So today is the day to reflect upon, think about, and take back the time that is your life, because no one, least of all your bosses and overlords, will give it to you! *This is also an excellent way to reduce unemployment! If we could institute a 4 day work week (3 day weekends!) then we could employ 20% more people to get the same amount of work accomplished! Of course the draw back is that you get paid 80% of your current salary, and for some people that's kinda stupid... but trust me, when I was employed at HP, I would sacrifice 20% of my salary to get 3 day weekends :D

October 26, 2003 - Sunday

Yay! Don't have to work Monday or Tuesday! However, Tuesday is gonna be my last day at the Hayes Conference Center. I hope know that. I did leave a note for one of my supervisors saying that Tuesday would be my last day. Well, at least I don't have to work that day. I guess I should turn in my uniform tomorrow then. Ah, I feel so free now that I've quite that hell hole. Now I'll be back to one job that pays much better and has less bullshit. Feels good to quit that place. Well, now that I have Mondays and Tuesdays off I better make the best of it. For a long ass time I haven't done anything creative. Just haven't had the motivation especially with two jobs. I did manage to save quite a bit of money though. Always thought about doing something similar to Nekobox. I was never confident in my abilities. However everything is a risk. Guess it's better to give it a shot than to regret not doing anything. Part of why I haven't moved or done anything was my bitterness towards my past college and work experience. I fell into that syndrome of being that angsty guy who felt the whole world was against him and out to get him. But really it was me who was able to make a decision to take the right attitude even though I got screwed. It's hard. Sometimes you just want to justify and avenge yourself. But you realize you can't waste your time doing that and you know that you can be the better person and let go and move on. So in light of my new free time having Mondays and Tuesdays off, hopefully if I can get off my lazy ass, I will draw and create and contribute more to my talents and not lay waste anymore feeling angsty and bitter. Binky will help me for he watches over me perched on my monitor. I feel bad though. He hasn't been with the other Binkys for a while. I've been thinking since several of the Nekobox staff like my rants I'll be doing a rant at least a week....but this time in Flash. Yeah, I know I've been saying stuff that I'm gonna do epecially in the forums with that "color me" thread and the promising of drawing tutorials but haven't gone through with it. Well this will be my word. I'm gonna crack the whip on this one. So hopefully next week or this week look for something in the rant section of Nekobox. And if things go well with this I might start a sister page with an archive of the Flash rants. Just hope I won't be biting on Strong Bad's E-mails.
