A wine opener is like a Jedi's light saber. Every waiter and bartender must have one or two and keep it by his or her side at all times when serving. To lose it would be dire. I've lost a few during my time as a waiter and bartender. Lending it to someone is almost like giving it away for ever. It's like when you let someone borrow a pen. You'll never see that pen again. Thankfully the wine openers that I lost in the past were cheap ones given to me by management at my work place. I still have a few that I hold on to dearly because they have nice leverage when pulling out the cork or because the blade used to remove the foil on the wine bottle cuts well. I have a special one from Rombauer Vineyards given to me by my manager at my current work place. I use it the most because it's reliable. I also have one that my father had when he was a waiter. I don't use it much but I keep it with me. Today one of my co-workers asked to borrow my Rombauer opener. This wasn't the first time. Hesitantly I gave it to her. However I had to ask for it back twice otherwise she would've not given it back to me. I know that bitch is up to something. I know she wants my light saber...er...Rombauer wine opener cause she probably lost hers. GRRRRRRR~!!!! I bet she stole some of my pens too. I'm gonna get that bitch back someday.

I know the show had a lot of viewers and all but I still don't see a reason for this.

I'm not sure what possessed Tokyo-Pop to license/produce something like this. Most of their other Cine-Manga seems aimed at younger audiences based on the subject matter. This seems out of place by comparison.

Perhaps our local marketing expert can shed some light on what they might have been thinking... Jon? Any Clue?

I'm pretty sure crack had something to do with it. Lots and lots of crack.

And money lust I'm sure

After that Courtney Love manga thing with the so-called "DJ Milky", who just happens to be founder Stu Levy's pseudonymn, to another "cine-manga" tie in with Linkin Park and some other rap star. (the name escapes me at the moment)
I don't see why anyone would really WANT something like the Simple Life book. (I'm not EVEN going to call it a "cine-manga" because it is SO not)

Books like that are easy to produce, since it's basically just printing out screencaps with text, no one has to write a new story, no one has to draw new material. I don't know about anyone else, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. *bleh*

It seems like more and more that Tokyopop is taking a garage sale approach to their library.
I'm sure stuff like that does sell, but I don't know how much brand integrity it builds in the eyes of consumers. I guess they are covering their bases with "mass titles" and then their more fan-based manga titles.

Who knows...
