So I must say... Doom 3 is all that everyone has expected. I do have to also say I'm kinda disappointed. It's a very graphically pretty game and it does scare the bejeezus out of me as I play it... but sometimes it tries _too hard_ to be scary.

Example: I just got grenades in the game.
I enter a dark empty room with many nooks and crannies from which baddies can hide.
I say, "Hey, this is a dark empty room with many nooks and crannies from which baddies can hide. I have grenades. I'll toss one in to clear out baddies."
So I toss a grenade in and it goes boom.
I enter the room and a magical deus ex door opens up and 3 zombies pop out at me.

There were no markers for the door, it looked like normal wall... it just magically opened up to reveal a strange red glowing closet like area with 3 zombies inside.

So I must ask myself. Why were there 3 guys in there in the first place? And why would the engineers for the place design a random tiny secret glowing red room anyway? Did they go, "Hey, this wall... it's too... normal. Let's put a tiny room inside it with absolutely nothing!" Then another engineer came along and went "Hell, that's a great idea, but let's make it big enough to store 3 people! 3!!! That's brilliant!"

As my brother said to me... did they make some random easter egg room which the scientists discovered and went "Hey, let's see how many people we can cram in here!" then after the fact went, "Uh... so now that we're in here... how do we get out?"

Or maybe they were hiding all the dead bodies in there from the failed experiments?

Or maybe they were having a gay scientist menage-a-trois in the secret closet when they were turned to zombies?

I guess the world will never really know.

So, does Doom 3 take immense amounts of megahurtz power to run so that you'll have to get a dual Opteron processor system with an GeForceFX 6800 or ATI Radeon X800? I bet that's scary enough.

From what a friend sent me (Hi Bonzai!) the game scales really well to all processor speeds and cards... it really all depends on what resolution you want to play the game at and what you can live with.

I have a Radeon 9600 with a 2.4ghz machine and a gig of RAM... I'm currently running it at 800x600 with medium quality and it runs pretty nicely. I've only seen it choke twice... and that was just before "boss" fights, so it kinda allowed me to prepare =}
