 | April 26, 2004 - Monday | |
Well, this weekend was a weekend of firsts.
It was my first major thunderstorm of Texas.
It was my first tornado warning of Texas. (it was 40 miles north of us. Two funnels were spotted but nothing touched down.)
It was my first home made pecan pie I made from scratch.
Ever notice pecans look like tiny brains?
I had a very productive weekend though. Over the past few weeks, I've done a lot of artwork. I should head over there and update my gallery now =}

Interesting article I found on obesity. Figured I'd share. Disputes the whole obesity causing 300k deaths a year in the US epidemic thing.

Wow, neat. According to them I have a BMI of 25.4, and am overweight! I know I've like 2 pounds heavier than I want to be (I'm 187), but I'm pretty sure I fall nowhere *near* overweight :)
Of course, according to this I am Normal, very low risk.

Yeah, I've got a BMI of around 25 or so as well.
But that article is very true. The thing is, weight doesn't really mean a lot. The one thing a lot of people forget is that muscle has more mass that fat does, and weighs more. Louis, you're a perfect example of that. Most of your weight is muscle.
I'd say the same, but honestly, I'm not that buff. ^^
I do worry about how I look, but my weight never really factors in to it. I weight about 150 lbs. I'm usually told that I look like I weight about 135lbs or so. So honestly, ignore the scale ladies, that isn't accurate.
Rather than worrying about being skinny, I found that it's better to concern yourself with being *healthy*. If you've got a cushy layer, but you can run a mile without stopping, I wouldn't worry too much. But if you find yourself panting heavily after walking up the stairs, you might want to start walking a bit more.
I do wish I were more confidant about my looks, but I do hate the fact that I have a layer of fat, and that I'm a size 12. But I don't like it because I don't feel healthy. I have very little endurance and strength, and I really feel that if I could get my act together, I could lose a dress size, and be healthier. I just have a really hard time sticking to an exercise routine that works.
Oh, and screw Atkins. Any diet that cuts anything out of your diet completely is *not* good for you. Balence things, eat some fruit instead of the candy bar, and maybe don't eat as much, and you'll be fine. The Europeans have it right: I have friends who visit and wonder why food portions are so huge, and how we can eat that much. Yeah, that's a clue.
Sorry, my brother hit a tender spot. I get verbal when it comes to weight and diets. ^^

Well said, Erin!
Too bad you never believe any of us who have said you were very pretty, even, dare I write it, beautiful!
If you can't believe it, nothing we say will mean much in any case :)

Quick addendum, they refer to the British term of "Stone" a lot in the article. For reference, a stone is 14 pounds. (So 7 and a half stone would be 105 pounds.)
Since we're throwing out numbers, my BMI, according to the website, is between 24.57 and 25.05 depending on when my weight is checked.

My BMI is 23.0... I really haven't gained or lost any weight in the past 4 years. More proof I am a robot.
